In the aftermath of the Second World War and the constant Soviet threat to Europe, the creation of the NATO alliance had a galvanizing effect on the overall European security. And while the Soviet goals for expansion and influence were reaching its peak, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization was the main deterrence force that kept the Soviets at bay which ensured a continental peace and prosperity for the European nations.

Migration has played an important role in the process of shaping the European continent as we know it today. And although, there is a number of reasons for which people emigrate to Europe, the arrival of large numbers of migrants can create certain challenges for every state on the old continent. One notable issue on which the mass migration can have a significant impact is the national security.

On March 21, leaders of 44 African countries gathered in Rwanda to sign the historic African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) agreement. Championed by the African Union, AfCFTA is a move towards integration.
